A couple items of interest. The first being that I've seen the place and
it looks AWESOME! Pictures have been taken and they will be posted
sometimes soon. It's large enough and not too far away from civilization.
Power capacity seems to be adequate also. So the place is AWESOME and
directions will be posted ASAP. Pyrotech is working on those.
As far as servers are concerned, we're actually having trouble getting
solid, dependable servers. We're down to the following...
- DHCP and HTTP and FTP Server
- PII 400Mhz Win9x Server
Without 10/100Mbs Ethernet PCMCIA cards, our other servers may have to run
Win9x instead of Linux. Which I personally believe will limit the amount
of people who can use each server. I'm certain we will have enough servers
running enough places for people to play, but I doubt we'll get everyone
on one server at any point during the day. Something I was hoping to do.

Good news. I believe our server requirements will be met with little
effort. We should have the following available for servers.
- 166MHz/48Mb Linux Box (DHCP, HTTP)
- 200MHz/162Mb Linux Box (Quake II Tourny)
- Dual PII 333Mhz/128Mb NT Box (Quake II)
- Dual PII 233MHz/128Mb NT Box (Quake II)
- PII 400MHz/???Mb NT/98/95 Box (Quake II/Half-Life)
I want you to all know that Elric, Pyrotech, and Louie have really been
helping me out with equipment and network setup. After this weekend you
should also start to see maps/mods and other things you may want to
download.

Here is the address of the place where the party will take place. I've got
Pyrotech working on making a good map and directions for everyone to
follow.

Good news! The party is now in the 30th of January! That's right, sooner
that I would have thought. It seems that Jev from The Gathering found a
place that can hold 60 or more people and should meet the power
requirements of said number. Basically, Jev and I have decided we should
merge the two parties to focus our resources more effectively. This means a
few things will be different.
- Alot more people! Woo!
- There will be a couple Quake II tournaments.
- If you have a HUB, bring it.
- The location will be North Raleigh. Address forthcoming.
I'll be updating the page some more tomorrow with specifics. If you can
not make it on the 30th, let me know. If you want to play, register! We
can fit more than 60 people in the place.

The network config page is mostly done. It will probably get a couple of
re-writes as I perfect it and get questions about the instructions. Take a
look at it and let me know how it looks.

First, I would like to thank Quintin Stone again for conjuring up a button
for the FRAG Party. It's displayed to the left and graces the main
RPS web page. Pretty cool
button in my opinion.
Second, I had Pyrotech and Quintin Stone over to help me test the network
and go through our Quake II maps. Our DHCP/WWW server is working fine and
I'm hammering out the Network instruction page. It'll be complete with
pictures so that you guys can show up ready to plug and play.
I've narrowed down the maps quite a bit. There are a lot of good ones but I
could use more 15 or more player maps. If you know of any, let me know
their names and I'll get them if I don't have them already. I will
attempt to post a list of the maps I currently have lined up ASAP.

Ok! I'm gonna be doing a beta test of the network today and hopefully
looking at some Quake II and Half-Life maps. I'll post the maps tonight
that I think we'll play along with network configurations if I can.
Sorry I've neglected the page all week but I've recently assumed a new
role at work doing AIX support. Unless things quiet down at work, I'll
only be updating a lot on the weekends. Stay tuned fellow fraggers.

Ok. I'm caught up at the moment and here is where things stand. I've still
got a few more location leads to run down before I put up money for Cary
Community Center. If we do end up going to the community center, we'll
only allow about 25 registrants maximum. I'm trying to resolve this
A.S.A.P. as to nail a date/time down for you guys.
Also, I got a cool e-mail from my counterpart of `The Gathering' LAN Party.
Check it out ...
... I can tell you now that the next Gathering will be on April 3 in a
town about 2 hrs east of raleigh. One of my entrants has secured an
armory out there where we can have about 60-70 people. I'm stoked! You
and anyone at your lanparty are invited.
So, hit the button to the left if you up for that. I'm trying my best to
make sure F.R.A.G. and The Gathering don't clash datewise.

Oy! I just got back from a little vacation skiing at Snowshoe. I feel a lot
like someone who was on the wrong end of an aluminum baseball bat. I've
got TONS of e-mail and I'll sort through it in the clarity of tomorrow's
morning. So don't get worried if I haven't added your name to the registry
yet, or if I haven't answered your question just yet. Be cool.

I've closed voting and the winner is obvious I hope. Click on any of the
three voting related links above to see the results. I like this name and
think it will server us well. If you don't like the name ... get over it!
It's just a name.
I've been way too busy at work to do much towards securing a location.
It's kind of frustrating. But I'm getting a lot of help searching for a
location. I'll keep everyone posted on the location and date status.
I'm impressed at the growth we've seen in the registry and the mailing
list. As you can see in the upper right hand corner, we've got enough
people on the mailing list to fill the Cary Community Center and enough on
the registry to hold a seriously kickin' frag-fest. Thanks to everyone for
signing up for either. I've been pleasantly surprised at the response to
the party.
If you want to help find a location larger than Cary Community Center,
send me some e-mail so I can tell you what info I need. Don't assume I've
found everything either. Even though I've lived in the Cary/Raleigh area
my entire life, there may be places I haven't thought of yet.
